Our New Newsletter for Studio 3 is available! We are excited to share it with you. We welcome you to come down and visit us at the studio pick up a handmade gift for a loved one! There are so many reasons to give a gift and why not support local artists. Set up a time for a painting lesson or photo shoot. Connect with Cassandra and other local artists.  Check out what is happening in Nanaimo. See YOU soon!

Have a great weekend everyone! TGIF! The Studio will be closed tomorrow, unless there is an artist available out there who wants to enjoy a day working in-studio painting, drawing, sculpting or whatever else comes to mind. We are at the Vancouver Island University for their open house checking out the programs they are offering to promote creative growth!

That is what we want to bring to the community and with Cassandra’s experience and education, she is looking to collaborate with other artists. Grow the Art Community and creative movement. It is therapy for a lot of folks to deal with life’s stresses, but they don’t. It is a release that is fun and allows us to be free to create!

To add to this issue, Cassandra has applied for the Sony’s Alpha Female – Creator in Residence program! It is a program for Female Photographers that says….

YOU ARE POWERFUL BEYOND MEASURE.

We’re giving you an outlet to express yourself.

Sony is giving professional creators with a lifelong commitment to photography or filmmaking. Six months to advance their careers. They asked, ARE YOU ONE OF THEM? Cassandra has been working in photography for 15 years now. She has worked in almost area you can think of to see what really spoke to her. Portraiture, Music Photography and her favourite, Fine Art Photography that tells a story. As a busy mom, she pushed forward after leaving teaching in the school system to have children. Opened a photography studio in Cedar that ran 12 years. Having a home studio is a problem when you sell your house with studio and wait to buy property to build another. That is when Studio 3 was born. With the idea of bringing the love MAKING and CREATIVITY in a boutique environment in downtown Nanaimo. It is a small studio at this time, where there are interesting nooks and crannies for great photography. Offering photography services, classes, and handmade goods! The studio is full of artwork made right here in Nanaimo, with 13 makers showing their works for sale. Everything from Scarves to Paintings and so much more.  One being Cassandra’s fine art photography prints.

Her plan to  create a new series, which will explore the diverse female population of the world. There has been such a focus on women to make aware of the imbalance, not only in this field of photography, but in many.  She would create imagery that tells stories of these women, their struggles and in the end, their triumph. Being diverse & multicultural to encourage young women of the world to be strong, stand up & speak out. Use their voices to show that they are not going to just stand by. Creating a cause for young women to be able to have self-confidence; strength and skills to persevere. By creating this cause, she would like to teach young women skills to do their own photography. It is a great way to express oneself and relieve stress.  To show their point of view as a women in the world today.  This would be a series of Fine Art pieces completed and ready to showcase at the events in the program in LA and New York.

Cassandra stated, “Everyone’s voice is important. All Women must have a chance to speak out. Be heard and be seen. Let me be a vehicle of change. I would truly love the opportunity to pursue a dream and make a difference. I am passionate about encouraging the growth of females in whatever field they choose, but offering the knowledge that you can do whatever you set your mind too.”

Here are a few of her latest Fine Art Photography Pieces: ENJOY! Please help us and wish her good luck on this adventure! Sony we all hope you choose Cassandra Smith!
